Melanie De Jong

Melanie de Jong

Biography

Melanie de Jong is a fashion illustrator who lives and works in the Netherlands. Her love
for drawing and fashion started from an early age. She studied fashion at the Artemis
Academy in Amsterdam and graduated in 2011.
Her way of looking at this world can be called different; she loves art, beautiful fabrics,
theatre, classical music, costume dramas, and especially periods from t ‘20s, ‘30s, and
‘40s. And admires the style of fashion in those periods, mostly the way the fashion
illustrators such as George Barbier, Helen Dryden and George Le Pape portrayed the
women and the story around it.
In this digital era, she remains true to her pencil and paint, that way she can put more
emotion into her work. Painting and drawing by hand is a wonderful way to capture
emotions and create a unique style as an illustrator. Her illustrations are diverse, and the style can be called quirky, she likes to exaggerate by making the neck narrower and
longer than reality. The soulful eyes are often bigger and she loves to add a bit of drama and a melancholic feeling to her illustrations.
She has illustrated for the fashion brand Backstage in Germany
