Joanna was invited to create a series of fashion illustrations inspired by coffee for the opening of the new flagship Piccadilly store for the Gentlemen Baristas. The original artworks created in bespoke coffee inks - and those of three other Bleur artists all working in coffee - are on exhibition now until 26th September at the new store and will be auctioned in aid of Well Grounded charity. The Gentlemen Baristas Flagship Store, 162 Piccadilly, St. James's, London W1J 9EF

'The Art of Coffee' is open to the public - 23rd September - just along from the RA

The pieces Joanna created are inspired by fashion and coffee - contemporary meeting traditional - including the origins of Piccadilly in the high collar or 'Piccadil' tailored in the area.

Featured: 'Chapeau!' and "Leopard Latte'.

To celebrate our Piccadilly flagship coffee house opening this September (exciting!), we teamed up with indie art gallery Bleur and four fantastic female artists to create ‘The Art of Coffee’, an exhibition of original artworks made using our well-mannered coffee, to raise funds for social enterprise Well Grounded.

Piccadilly is our 10th coffee house, and our biggest, so we wanted to mark it accordingly and we have loved working with the artists at Bleur; Joanna Layla, Eva Merendes, Jemima Sara and Blandine Bardeau who have all worked in styles ranging from abstract to fashion figurative to bring the project to life.

We invited them to use the medium of coffee (Gentlemen Baristas’ well-mannered, of course), to make works that celebrate the ritual of coffee.

The brilliant artworks will be auctioned to raise funds for the social enterprise Well Grounded, and help change the lives of unemployed people through coffee.

"I grew up around artists, both my Mother and Grandmother are/were artists . My mum, a traditional graphic designer/illustrator and my grandmother, a painter and I was constantly inspired by their work.

I live in the North of Scotland and growing up here there seemed to be a great many artists, painters and sculptors living and working nearby. I was certainly encouraged to use art as a means of expression from an early age."
