Katarina Kühl

I studied Illustration Design in Hamburg, Germany & I am working as a freelance illustrator.

My work can be seen, among other things, in Taschen‘s publication „The Illustrator - 100 Best From Around The World“.

I have worked with an independent publishing house for illustrated short stories,

postcards, a baking book, a mystery short story etc.

At an illustration competition from the movie magazine Little White Lies based on the movie ‘Carol‘ my

work won and was hand-picked by director Todd Haynes, I also illustrated a couple of stories for a children‘s

magazine and made a Drawing Tutorial video for the L.A. based non profit organisation Art Of Elysium.

(Plus a collaboration with model Irina Lazareanu. Designer Giles Deacon ordered a work of mine for

Actress Gwendoline Christie.)

My work was posted on Social Media, among others, by Schiaparelli, Gwendoline Christie, Lou Doillon,

Irina Lazareanu, Ferdinando Verderi, Perfect Magazine, Draw A Dot, Giambattista Valli, Erin O‘Connor,

Lupita Nyong‘o, Giles Deacon etc.

My illustrations are mainly about seeing what‘s underneath the surface, this can be beauty, vulnerability, fear,

truth etc. I‘m very interested in the beauty & worlds that lies beneath the surface.

I usually draw my works manually with classic pencils, then colour them digitally. Sometimes I use vintage

papers (like old maps) and manually painted papers in my illustrations. I also paint with watercolours &

oil colours.
