Princesses & Passion

Katarina Kühl

I don't think it was a decision I've made, It all developed very naturally. I've always been a huge fan of Vogue, even as a child, so I grew up with fashion editorials and that must have influenced what I wanted to create. In my works I want to tell stories and fashion can wonderfully intensify and support the narrative.

Fashion Performance

Castella Montero

when I was a child, thanks to my mum. She loves drawing and encouraged me to open up my creativity. I remember that time being very happy, discovering colours, shapes and above all observing the nature around us. Those drawings of animals, houses by the mountains, the sunrise....It was a window to my freedom, to imagine a new world where everything could be possible and there were no limits to my imagination. It was a fantastic time.

The Emerald City Returns

The love of Cinema - Melanie De Jong

"My phone is my holy grail, I make pictures or screenshots from things I see.
Buildings, nature, animals, colours, patterns. Lots of hand images and different angles of the face, because I love drawing emotion in my illustrations. Mostly I draw with the image in my phone, I like to expand the image to see the details better. Some days I think it's better to print the image out."

Benefits of mentoring

"Confidence is key, believe in yourself and your aesthetic and others will believe in you too. In addition, don’t shy away from critique, my tutors at university were really tough, and I am so thankful to them as it prepared me life in the fashion industry."

Cultivating Passion

Learning your craft

"The advice I could give is to experiment a lot, practice with as many different style and media as possible, do not stick only to what you were taught to do, especially in a sector like this, being able to propose something new, personal, unique, is certainly one of the best business cards you can offer."

Stina Persson X Fida Talks

Interview

'Fluidity and Agility, shapes this master of watercolours.' Fida Ambassador Francesco lo Iacono talks with founder Patrick Morgan

Like many creatives, I've been drawing since I was a kid. I think it has been pretty much a constant till my teenage years, right after that I started attending the Fine Arts back in Italy. I got interested in fashion through photography actually, during my last years as a student. So at some point, it felt natural to mix all of my interests.

Interview

“I was awful. With fashion, every measurement has to be exact, and I was not very precise,” she says. But while her experience in pattern making was dismal, her skill and interest in the field’s subset—fashion illustration—blossomed. An art teacher at the fashion school who saw how Persson excelled at fashion illustration encouraged her to go to New York to study illustration at Pratt Institute. And so, in 1995, she did."

"Keep at it. Try to find your voice/style. Try to find inspiration outside of fashion illustration. "

Stina Persson

"I think it's people expressing themselves that intrigue me rather than hemlines and ruffles. It could be clothes but also make up, hair or just a pose."

Interview

Wilew x Joanna Layla

WILEW is a collaboration between myself, Lauren White, and my partner Cat Lewis. The name is an abbreviated amalgamation of our surnames. Both myself and Cat have design backgrounds, in fashion and graphics/art direction respectively.

Joanna, through her visual interpretation, has added an element of storytelling to our brand. She has captured the WILEW muse beautifully and brought her to life. This in itself has been inspiring.

A Brush of Sensitivity to the Eye and Expressiveness for the Mind by Floortje Selis

"I remember seeing a portrait made by Isaac Israels a couple of years ago in a museum and just being amazed. I started reading about him and his life alongside his rival and inspiration George Breitner."

It is so fascinating and I love that they lived right here, they are even buried here, I feel almost honoured to be so 'close' to them. Their work is something I will always be influenced by. But also (and I know this sounds a bit weird) the pain of knowing I am not as good as the big names. The frustration drives me to go further, try again and again. I need the emotion to drive me crazy, I have to feel. It is my drive.
