Victoria Ganea

Biography

My name is Victoria, I was born in the early 80's in Moldova in the USSR. I spent my childhood summers and school holidays in the village with my grandmother, helping out with the harvest. In my early 20s I left the country and lived in Italy and the UK.

When I moved to the UK I fell in love with the nature of the island and that gorgeous emerald green. London is my favourite city, but for me the countryside is the best destination to enjoy a weekend break. Green is my favourite colour, probably because I spent so much time in nature as a kid and also the outside of my grandma's house was painted green.

I studied accountancy and finance, working as an accountant, but I was always open and did all sorts of other work and activities, like dancing and babysitting, I also trained as a cocktail bartender and became a certified yoga teacher. And I enjoy knitting!

I love travelling, it's my main source of inspiration, but this year this activity was unavailable and my mind was looking for new ways to occupy and express itself. I started to draw regularly in Spring 2020 during lockdown. I'm quite a curious person and I like trying new things, discovering and exploring new ideas. In my work I like to use bright and bold colours, as well as enjoying the simplicity of black and white. I find drawing faces fascinating, it's all in the eyes. I also enjoy fashion illustrations and quick sketching. Watercolour is my favourite medium to draw and illustrate, I love the never ending ways of experimenting with them. With watercolour there is always the possibility of creating something unexpected as well as the risk of ruining it all, and then learning from the experience. I also enjoy drawing with pencils and pastels, as well as using coloured paper to create a collage.
